Explaining Stranded Assets - to a Five year old!

Nidhi Nikum Darbari

Imagine you have a box of really awesome toys, but you can only play with them inside a giant sandbox.  This sandbox represents our planet, and the toys are like things people use, like cars and factories.

Now, let's say playing in the sandbox makes a mess: it creates smoke and gets too hot.  This mess is like climate change, and it's important to clean it up.

To fix the mess, some toys won't be safe to play with anymore, like ones that make smoke.  These are like "stranded assets." They're still good toys, but they can't be used in the same way because they might make the mess worse.

Instead, we need to switch to new toys that don't make smoke, like solar panels and electric bikes. ☀️⚡️ These are like clean energy solutions that help keep the sandbox healthy.

So, stranded assets are like good things that can't be used anymore because of changes we need to make to protect our planet.  But just like finding new toys, we can find new ways to do things and keep our planet happy!
